The smooth surface of the orb-like #700 Windbell is formed when a water-clay slurry called “slip” finds its form, hardening in the plaster mold in which it’s cast. Like a tableau rasa, the wide level surface of this somewhat larger bell allows the abstract designs that typically embellish Cosanti Windbells to take on different subject matter. In addition to abstract, freeform designs that frequently appear, carvings of faces, celestial motifs, and wildlife sometimes ornament the #700, adding visual interest to complement its pleasing and deeply resonant sound.
